Student Teaching: Biography?

I just found out my placement for my student teaching next semester, and I’m excited that I’ll be getting to work with the teacher that I was hoping for!

However, the school wants three things from me: (1) resume, (2) teaching philosophy statement, and (3) a biography.

The first two make sense to me—but the biography confuses me a little. Do they want my life story (unlikely), or a just a short blurb?

I’m going to go check with my advisor to find out, but I’m curious to know from anyone else who has or is student teaching if this is pretty common?

  1. asurerform answered: This would not be so uncommon, part of the school culture is of letting the faculty know who you are. Also, this might become a future job.
  2. tomesaway answered: I’d imagine it’s like a cover letter: a chance to talk about your experiences in more of a narrative fashion than you can do in resume form.
  3. mgweng74 answered: a blurb probably about where you’re studying undergrad, clubs/organizations..
  4. grantaires-bottle answered: It’s similar to a cover letter. Just go into detail about hour schooling, work experiences and interests.
  5. turnmyashestobeauty answered: When asked for a bio, I usually include a brief snippet of my education—-where I’ve taught before, maybe a detial or two about interests.
  6. -shadygrove- answered: It’s nice to know where you’re coming from, especially concerning your own education in the field you’ll be working in!
  7. kristenegetsit answered: We had to submit one-page biographies with internship applications
  8. postcardsfromafar answered: In my experience in classroom/school they want an overview of the things that have shaped you in your life. More than a blurb though.

  14. music-teacher-in-training answered: I’d guess just a short blurb… your educational background, career goals, that kind of thing.
  15. msleahhbic answered: Our teaching biography was a bio of our learning within our discipline. So how have I grown as an artist? How have you grown as a musician?
